Bromelain
Bromelain inhibits the production of prostaglandis that cause inflammation,
swelling, and pain. Studies show that Bromelain reduces symptoms
of arthritis, bronchitis and other inflammatory disorders. It reduces
the ability of blood platelets to form clots, and some naturopaths
recommend it as an alternative to low dose aspirin because it is
less likely to cause an upset stomach and other adverse side effects.
As
a nutraceutical, Bromelain is promoted mostly as an anti-inflammatory
medication to treat minor burns and sports injuries, such as bruises
and sprains. Because it helps break down protein, it sometimes used
as a digestive aid. By helping break down and more fully digest
protein, Bromelain aids in preventing allergic reactions to food
by reducing the number of allergens that are absorbed from the small
intestines.
Bromelain
has also been tested and proved to be effective against a variety
of conditions such as: urinary track infections, and to relieve
the pain, swelling, and tenderness of some sports injuries.
