Vitamin
B12 is the largest and most recently discovered of the B-complex
family. Ever since the late 1940's, researchers have known that
B12, or Cobalamin, is essential to prevent pernicious anemia, a
disease that occurs mostly in adults. While B12 is not a magical
fountain of youth, it does appear by the latest studies, does appear
to alleviate a number of neurological and psychological problems
and promote a sense of well being. Symptoms of B12 deficiency are
fatiguing, weakness, loss of weight, sore tongue, numbness and tingling
sensations, back pain, depression, anxiety, and other nerve or psychological
problems. Severe deficiency can lead to pernicious anemia, which
causes pallor, shortness of breath, easy bruising and bleeding problems,
sore tongue, unsteady gait, depression, and other mental disturbances.
Vitamin
B12 also helps in these areas, protection against cancer in smokers,
slowing of the progression of multiple sclerosis, the blocking of
certain allergens, which cause allergies.
