Natural
Anti-Inflammatory Agents
-
Quercetin
is a potent antioxidant and free radical fighter richly supplied
in blueberries, red onions and certain other vegetables and
fruits. It is also a natural anti-histamine and anti-inflammatory
agent.
-
Bromelain,
derived from the pineapple plant, is another potent natural
anti-inflammatory.
-
Bromelain is also rich in digestive enzymes and quercetin’s
anti-inflammatory effects benefit inflamed intestines.
-
Our Quercetin and Bromelain act synergistically to provide natural
relief for arthritis, allergies, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome,
and other inflammatory conditions.

Quercetin
Benefits
Quercetin,
the most active of the flavanoids, is a powerful antioxidant, antihistamine
and anti-inflammatory. Quercetin inhibits the activity of adhesion
molecules, which enable inflammation producing white blood cells
to stick to other cells in the body.
Quercetin
is even more effective as an anti-allergen when taken with bromelain,
the anti-inflammatory enzyme from the stem of the pineapple plant.
Quercetin helps with asthma, allergies, arthritis, cancer, emphysema,
prostatitis and other diseases caused by inflammation.
C-reactive
protein (CRP) is a test that measures the concentration of a protein
in serum that indicates acute inflammation. CRP a far more accurate
predictor of heart attack risk than either cholesterol or homocysteine.
Elevated levels of inflammation increase the risk of a heart attack
by four and one-half times.
An
August 2006 Johns Hopkins study shows that a pill combining turmeric
and quercetin reduces both the size and number of precancerous lesions
in the human intestinal tract. The average number of polyps dropped
60.4 percent, and the average size dropped by 50.9 percent.
Bromelain
Benefits
Bromelain
(from pineapples) is an anti-inflammatory enzyme used to reduce
or eliminate pain, aid digestion, accelerate healing, prevent strokes
and reduce blood pressure.
According
to researchers at Duke University Medical Center, bromelain is a
complex mixture of proteinases typically derived from pineapple
stem. Beneficial therapeutic effects of bromelain have been suggested
or proven in several human inflammatory diseases and animal models
of inflammation, including arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.
Proteolytic
enzymes have analgesic effects besides the well-known anti-inflammatory
and edema-reducing properties. These analgesic effects are based
on the inhibition of inflammation and in addition to that on direct
influences on the nociceptors.
In
recent years a significant reduction of pain in various rheumatic
diseases, concerning these aspects, was shown in several clinical
studies. In the trial of patients suffering from painful osteoarthritis
of the knee, there was a statistical equivalence of the pain-scores,
comparing diclofenac and enzymes. The study of painful vertebral
syndromes again resulted in equivalence of the treatment with NSAIDs
compared to therapy with enzymes.
Bromelain
is often used after sports injuries to relive edema and inflammation,
and after surgical and dental procedures to help with swelling.
A study conducted by an orthopedic surgeon showed that giving bromelain
to 59 of his patients resulted in a clear reduction in both swelling
and discomfort.*
